Fernandez Hospital had a successful turnout for the first-ever open house session for Fathers-to-be on 18th February at Stork Home, Banjara Hills. Focusing on the role of fathers during labour and birth, professional midwives and the birth education team initiated healthy discussions and generated support for the fathers.
Childbirth educator Dr. Latha Balasundaram shared a recent father's feedback while providing tips on how to support during childbirth. She emphasized the importance of touch and the need for being present during this crucial phase. There was interactive participation from the audience. Fathers were given an opportunity to share and discuss their fears of childbirth. The session was supported by the Fernandez Doula team of Dr. Pooja Shenoy and Ms. Millena Sehgal.
International guest Maureen McCabe, a professional midwife based in UCLH, London and Indie Kaur, consultant midwife, facilitated questions and answers on birth choices such as waterbirth and the importance of mobility in labour.
The feedback from fathers on the day's proceedings was that the session was useful and needed very much. They were happy to know more about the midwifery and doula support available at Fernandez.They requested for on-going sessions to boost the participation of Fathers-to-be during this important part of their lives.
