| Obstetrics, from the Latin obstare meaning, "to stand by" is the surgical specialty dealing with the care of a woman and her offspring during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium (the period shortly after birth). |
| The Obstetric wing at Fernandez Hospital handles approximately 4000 deliveries per year. At any given time, the 10 bedded Labour Suite is staffed by a Senior Consultant and two obstetricians. Constant monitoring of patients is done by the doctor on duty and supported by caring and experienced nurses and dayas. |
