FNB(High Risk Pregnancy & Perinatology):

Fernandez Hospital started the High Risk Pregnancy Clinic in 2001, which over the years evolved into a dedicated Obstetric Medicine Unit. The Department established its credibility, getting referrals for the multidisciplinary care of these women. The Department has round the clock services of Obstetric Physicians, Critical Care Experts from the Anesthesia Team, Neonatologists and backup by the well established Fetal Medicine Department.
Fernandez Hospital was granted recognition by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, as a Centre for High Risk Pregnancy and Perinatology in the year 2001 and allotted two seats. This was the FIRST centre in India to be recognized for Post Doctoral training. There has been a consistent increase in the referrals for High Risk Pregnancies and women with pre-existing medical complications, hence in the year 2009, TWO additional seats were sanctioned. At present the dedicated Obstetric Medicine and Fetal Medicine Departments are actively involved in teaching and training of these post doctoral fellowship students.
Interested candidates need to undergo a Fellowship Entrance Examination conducted by the National Board of Examination (FEE). Selection to the Fellowship Programme is based on an entrance test and admission will be done only through centralized counseling. Detailed information can be obtained from the National Board of Examinations, website: http://www.natboard.edu.in

DNB ((Neonatology)

Neonatal Unit of Fernandez Hospital is geared to look after neonates requiring intensive and special care. It is fully equipped with incubators, high-end ventilators, iNo, invasive and non-invasive monitors, phototherapy units and laminar flow. In fact, because of the high quality care offered to critical neonates, Fernandez Hospital receives many in-utero referrals from the twin cities, surrounding districts and neighboring states. The NICU includes Kangaroo Ward Care, a low cost concept for preterm care that has been accepted very well by mothers of low-birth weight babies. The Quality Initiative Programme for preterm and sick infants includes (Promotion of use of mother’s milk from time of birth, Use of TPN, Mother centric care with unrestricted access and promotion of very early skin to skin contact, Use of donor milk when mother’s milk is unavailable, Family centered care with the mother taking complete care of her baby in the Kangaroo Mother Care Ward. CARDIOTOCOGRAPHY (CTG) TRAINING (3–4 DAYS)

Electronic Fetal Monitoring has become an integral part of assessing a fetus, especially with the rise in litigation in modern obstetrics. Most institutions have a CTG machine but most of the care providers, have not had any formal training with regard to the correct interpretation or with management protocols for an abnormal tracing. Fernandez Hospital fills the void with this short training programme.
