Diet and Nutrition

About us

Food and health are closely intertwined. At Fernandez Hospital the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics is dedicated to providing quality and evidence based patient-focused nutritional care in terms of food service and medical nutrition therapy.

Our vision is to be a Centre of Excellence in Nutrition with Evidence Based Practices and Commitment Backed Services to provide excellent care for women and child.

We provide a range of services.

In Patient Services (Unit 1 , Unit 2, Unit 5)

  • We conduct nutritional assessments for all our patients by reviewing medical, diet history and laboratory results.
  • Based on our assessments we plan appropriate balanced meals and provide nutritional counseling that complement medical treatment.
  • Regular monitoring and documentation by the team ensures that every patient receives the best possible care.
  • Prior to discharge, patients on therapeutic diets are provided with a Discharge Diet Plan.

Food service

Our specialized team of nutritionists and dieticians strive to ensure that meals are balanced and customized to the nutritional requirements of our patients. We also carefully consider our patients' customs and traditions and wherever applicable include them in planning our diets.

The portion size of each diet served is modified to match the patients' individual requirements and medical conditions. We provide nutritionally balanced, satiating and small frequent meals to support optimum weight gain of the growing fetus, maintaining the clinical status and enhancing breast milk production in postnatal women.

The executive chef and the food service supervisors are responsible for following the stringent quality measures that have been devised to ensure patient satisfaction.

A cyclic menu scientifically designed by us caters to both south and north Indian palates. Additionally, at Stork Home (Unit 5), continental options are also available.
