AUSTRALIAN EXPERTS DISCUSS PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH.

Research has shown that around one out of five women experience mental health issues during pregnancy or in the year after birthing. Unfortunately, in India, there is not much awareness about Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) issues. As a result, women with mental health issues are often overlooked and ignored. Understanding the need to bridge this gap, Fernandez Hospital in conjunction with ISOPARB, Hyderabad, conducted a session on PMH at the Marriott Hotel on 1st October. Prof. Jane Fisher and Prof. Bryanne Barnett from Australia shared their expertise and experiences in this field of medicine.

Obstetricians, Paediatricians, Psychologists and Psychiatrists attended this special session. Questions to the experts helped the audience to further broaden their understanding of PMH.
