COLPOSCOPY WORKSHOP "INFORMATIVE AND USEFUL"

Pap smear is the most common screening test that is done in Gynaecology for prevention of cervical cancer. Colposcopy is the diagnostic test to evaluate patients with an abnormal Pap smear or abnormal-appearing cervix, aimed at early detection and treatment of cervical precancer or cancer.

Cervical cancer in India contributes significantly to the global mortality. This is a major public health challenge and every effort must be made toward its reduction. Pap smear screening with appropriate referral for colposcopy can be pivotal in reducing the incidence and number of deaths from this disease.

With this focus, Fernandez Hospital conducted a Basic Colposcopy Workshop for the second time on Sunday, 13th May, 2018 at LJF Block Conference Hall, Unit-1, Bogulkunta, from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm attended by 32 postgraduates and practitioners. The workshop covered the latest screening guidelines including HPV testing, principles of Colposcopy, clinical management of preinvasive disease, Cervical Intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) with interactive case examples, videos and demo of colposcopy machines with procedures like Cryo and LEEP...

The rationale of this workshop is “Every gynaecologist must not only strive to increase opportunistic Pap screening but also be aware of the management of abnormal Pap smears.”

Feedbacks:
1. More practical demonstration will make us enjoy and learn more.
2. More practical demos will be helpful.
3. Need more live cases.
4. Extra time would have been better. Any prospects of a Urogynaecology Workshop.
5. Keep up the good work. You are a great team of committed clinicians, academicians and teachers!
6. Very well organized, informative and useful.
