The International Day of the Midwife (#IDM 2018) celebrations continued with 30 midwife trainee nurses of Karimnagar participating in a 10 km walking rally. Fernandez Hospital’s Consultant Midwife Inderjeet Kaur and senior midwives Anitha, Kalavathi, Josmi and Siji also participated in the rally.
This second event was held under the aegis of the partnership project of Fernandez Hospital, Government of Telangana and UNICEF. The event raised awareness of the need for professional midwives in India. The banner and placards at the rally focussed on the IDM theme : Midwives leading the way with quality care. They also highlighed how midwifery care can impact health care in the rural districts and save lives.
As the rally proceeded, residents of Karimnagar spoke to some of the trainee midwives and were told about the reason for the rally and how the Government Hospital Mother and Child Care Health Centre was promoting natural birth and informing women how they can prevent C-sections.
