The Water birth session in Fernandez Hospital, Bogulkunta, attracted a number of pregnant mothers and their families to discuss this choice for pain relief and also as a birth option.
The sessions facilitated by two British Midwives and the professional midwifery team at Fernandez Hospital created an open arena to share knowledge, using hydrotherapy and the research in reducing the need for epidural analgesia.
Elderly ladies were also part of the audience, learning and supporting their daughters and daughters-in-law, and helping them choose this option. The team shared the experiences of mothers and the images of water births with the audience, after taking consent from the mothers who chose to have water births. The families also followed up with further questions, toured the facilities available and saw the water birth pool in the unit.
